Bob Milne Concert TONIGHT!  The Carson City-Crystal Area Schools Foundation is sponsoring Bob Milne who will entertain you with ragtime and early dixieland jazz.  The program will begin at 7 p.m. at the Carson City Hospital’s Lobby.  Tickets may be purchased at the door.  Adults: $12 and Children (6-17 yrs.): $6 and Children (0-5 yrs.): Free.  Hope to see you there.
 
Grade Configuration Meeting.  We will have an update meeting on the grade configuration study on Monday, March 22 at 7 p.m. in the HS/MS Cafeteria.  Please come and stay informed.
 
Meet the Eagles.  The spring Meet the Eagles will be held on Tuesday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Field House.

Carson Parent Club Meeting.  I was invited to their monthly meeting and really appreciated the chance to see the group working for the betterment of their school.  Just like Crystal’s Parent Organization the parents at Carson were looking for ways to help staff do their job educating children.  I was able to speak to the issue of the grade configuration study and heard many good questions and comments.
 
Grade Configuration Meeting.  This is a reminder that the update to the Committee of the Whole will be held Monday, March 22 at 7 p.m. in the MS/HS cafeteria.  Please attend and hear the progress of the study.  Also, please do not hesitate to give me a call if you have questions or comments regarding this study (phone: 584-3138 and bswanson@carsoncity.k12.mi.us).  I have fielded many questions from parents and encourage you to contact me.  This school system is all of ours and together we can continue to make it a great place for kids. 
 
Carson Elementary’s Irish Fest.  As part of the great tradition at Hubbardston Elementary, Carson is continuing to celebrate Hubbardston’s Irish heritage.  The program was held this afternoon with great attendance and a fantastic program.  It is always great when the kids do such a fantastic job singing and performing.  Thanks to the Hubbardston Irish Dance Troupe and the Sprites for performing and a special thanks to Mrs. Carole Wiles for organizing this annual program.  Also, thanks to Music Teacher Mr. Mark Edwards.
 
Carson High School is hosting the District’s for Boy’s Basketball.  The finals are tonight in the Community Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.  Ithaca versus St. Louis.  Come out and see some great basketball.

It is a busy time so I apologize for the rather lengthy communication.
 
Meeting Change.  The regularly scheduled Board meeting (7 p.m.) at Carson Elementary has been moved to 4 p.m (same location).   This is due to the Boy’s Basketball Districts being held in the Community Field House.  Our Boys play at 5:30 p.m.
 
Grade Configuration.  I want to thank everyone who have had a chance to discuss this issue with me.  The committees are working on this study and we will be ready to report our progress at the March 22 meeting.  This meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the HS/MS cafeteria.  I encourage anyone with questions or comments to contact me.  Phone (989) 584-3138 or email: bswanson@carsoncity.k12.mi.us.
 
Automated attendance and grades.  Did you know you can get your child’s grades and attendance (6th grade and up) e-mailed to you on a daily basis?  You can choose to get an email if your child falls below a certain grade and you can choose to receive weekly or even daily updates.  Just call the MS office at (989) 584-3903 or the HS office at (989) 584-3175.
 
MME.  This stands for the Michigan Merit Exam.  It is given to all HS juniors in the State next week.  This test consists of the ACT, MEAP test and work keys and takes place over three days.  If you have a junior make sure to ask them about it and encourage them to do well.
 
From the Desk of Band Director Mr. Parmenter.  On Saturday (Feb. 27), our students performed at District Solo and Ensemble.  All of our students did very well.  Jared Dennis, Addie Richards, Hannah Burtch, Lisa Fleisher, Allison Bozung, and Logan McClintic all received 2nd division ratings.  Elise Parks and Lisa Fleisher both received a 1st division rating, which qualifies them for State Competition.  They both will be attending State Solo and Ensemble next month.
 
Wrestling.  If you see either Devon O’Green or Kenny Dittenber in the halls or around town, be sure to congratulate them on qualifying for the Individual Wrestling State Finals.  Devon qualified by placing 3rd at 152 lbs at the Division 4 Regional Tournament at New Lothrop High School this past Saturday, while Kenny qualified by placing 4th at 103 lbs.  These two young men will be competing in the State Championship at The Palace of Auburn Hills this weekend.
 
The Math Make and Take held at Carson Elementary on Tuesday (March 2) was a rousing success with 20+ parents and 30+ children attending.  Following a brief overview of Title I Math and the activities we were doing, students and parents enjoyed healthy snacks while our paraprofessionals set out materials.  Then everyone got busy.  Participants had opportunities to put together film canisters of counters, place value flips charts, and flash cards.  They also collected decks of cards and dice.  All materials included instructions for activities at different levels including War 4.0 to practice addition, subtraction and multiplication.
 
Crystal Elementary students did an amazing job raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  During the month of February students brought in spare change to their classroom competing for a classroom pizza party or ice cream party.  One hundred thirty students raised $571.14!
 
Crystal is celebrating March is Reading Month with many different activities.  We have 3 guest readers who will be joining us this month, Kathy Seelinger, Beth O’Grady and Brenda Greenhoe.  After students finish with breakfast they find a comfortable spot in the gym to curl up with a book and read till school starts.  Crystal Motor Speedway is once again challenging students to read and become a member of their Reading Club.  Every student who reaches their reading goal will get 2 free tickets to the race on Saturday, May 15th.
 

Parents and Grandparents of students at Crystal Elementary are invited to join their child for breakfast any morning the week of March 8th through March 12th in celebration of National School Breakfast Week. 

 

Carson Elementary will be hosting “Donuts with Dads” starting at 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2010.
